MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipstick (Fashion Legacy)

For every girl who loves lipstick, MAC is one of the most desired brands out there. In MAC, the two favourite shades are Mehr and Ruby Woo. So, in one of my shopping trips, I picked up their then-launched Retro Matte liquid lipstick in shade fashion legacy. Now, it is a super bright colour and a little out there, so some of you may be skeptical when picking it up.

Price: ₹1850 (it's a little expensive, but nevertheless I wanted to try them)

The packaging:

The product comes in a sleek transparent tube with a black cap which shuts tight. Personally, I feel the packaging is very classy. The colour is clearly visible on the tube. The wand is attached to the cap and the applicator tip is pointed and small which allows easy application.

Colour and application:

This is probably the brightest red I've ever seen and has orange undertones which suit Indian skin tones really well. It's referred as "fire truck" red colour and is a gorgeous colour. Being so bright, the application needs to be perfect because if the colour starts to bleed, it'll be a messy affair. It's best to outline your lips with a liner and then fill the inner lips with this. You can also outline outside your lips with a concealer for a neat and clean look.

Staying power and texture:

The lipstick dries to a complete matte and it doesn't look like liquid lipstick at all. It dries so perfectly that if you have uneven or chapped lips, it will be clearly visible. Therefore, it is a must that you prep your lips before application. Once applied, it stays put for 5-6 hours and doesn't feel heavy on the lips. One issue with the lipstick is that, if the lips not prepped well, it starts to crumble and gives a weird look. At this point, it's best if you clean your lips and re-apply. This has happened with me a couple of times.

Pros:

The colour is a beautiful red
After application, the colour looks beautiful
If prepped well, stays for long
Dries to a beautiful matte texture

Cons:

Highlights the flaws on the lips
May flake

FOTB Rating: 4/5

Overall, it is a nice product which works well on various skin tones. You can try it once and it has 15 shades in total. Happy shopping!
